The inspiration for this post was born from a question posed by "MARF" on the forum and some answers from other users. The point is this: to invite the users of the site to click on ads AdSense is clearly prohibited, but invite you to read ads is?
I start from the premise that advertisers should be pleased that users read their advertisements and determine, without being solicited, if you click or not. Greater attention to the ads would bring in more clicks and this would benefit everyone: Google, advertisers and publishers. But it is one thing you can do without risking being banned?
In the absence of an official response from Google, we must rely on AdSense that prohibits:
Place misleading labels above Google ad units. For example, ads may be labeled "Sponsored Links" or "advertising" but not "Favorite Sites" or "Best of the Day"
Draw users' attention to the ads using arrows or other graphical gimmicks.
It can not therefore attract attention by using graphics and you can not omit the fact that the ads are "advertising". But it may be permissible to introduce ads with text messages (not graphic) of the type:
"Not what you were looking for? Check if you are interested in these sponsored ads:"
"The following sponsored links might be interested in what context to the discussion topic in the article that you just read:" and so on.
The effectiveness of these such messages (or other more persuasive) remains to be shown as well as tolerance of Google regarding the use thereof. When in doubt I would risk. What do you think?
