With the advent of plugins and extensions for Google Chrome, you begin to see around the first creations (often poorly managed) of tools that should facilitate our day.
Among the many extensions, there are 4 (for now) available at chromeextensions.org very useful to keep in check GMail, Wave, Google Reader and Facebook.
4 The extensions are called in the order:
- GMail Checker
- Warehouse Wave Checker
- Google Reader Checker
- Facebook Notification Checker
Imaginative names ... that, right?
And 'possible to download extensions looking Checker on ChromeExtensions.
Once installed, an icon will appear next to address bar for each checker, making it particularly lively, as in the image.

Each of these works in an entirely automatic and independent. Normally logged in the service you choose, each checker will check email every 15 seconds, wave, feeds and notifications and, once there is news, it will appear to indicate that there are unread messages.
Clicking on the icon, also you can go directly to the chosen site in order to save even use your bookmarks.
Reduce the time to notify Google Wave
For the Google Wave Checker, by default, the control is set every 30 minutes. Let's see how to shorten this time.
Once installed, you must go to the Extensions folder of Google:
- C: \ Documents and Settings \ Username \ Application Data \ Local \ Google \ Chrome \ User Data \ Default \ Extensions for XP
- C: \ Users \ Username \ AppData \ Local \ Google \ Chrome \ User Data \ Default \ Extensions for Vista and 7
(For beginners: Application Data or AppData folder is hidden). When you reach the folder, you must find the key in our case the extension that begins with aphnca. Where not present, you can spot it from Chrome going to Settings> Extensions, selecting the Developer mode and identifying the ID list for the Google Wave Checker extension.
Open the folder for the current version which is 1.4.1 as I write, just open the file with Notepad and change the first lines background.html variable pollInterval, writing in 1000 * 15 (or 15 seconds) instead of 1000 * 60 * 30 (30 minutes).
This has completed you will need to restart Chrome.
Of course this value can be changed at its discretion and this extension is the same as for the other 3 mentioned above.
